As previously mentioned, I like to use my wires as knives on solid forms if I require some thickness instead of using the extrude tool.
There appears to be some issues (EIM or ACIS bug) on how the top face is attaching to the body after an extrusion if done thus becoming problematic for beveling of that face.
If you need to use the extrusion tool then that is fine but be sure to slice off at least a little off the front face with the straight knife tool. Appears the back face is fine but most of us like to look at what is facing in our direction;-)
This relates to EIM 4.0.5 and I'm sure the OSX 3D Toolkit version also as it is based on 4.0.5...not positive about earlier versions though if I recall, there were one or two posts of it occurring.
