I'm trying to make a halogen exhibit light with visable lights but I can't figure out how to make the shaft of light large enough at the top to look convincing.
Here's a link of what it looks like:

What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it?
The first example uses a single light. The second also uses a single light but it's pulled back to show the size I want the light to be but the cone is showing through at the top.
I tried adjusting the size of the light with the same results. Should I use multiple lights? Is there a setting I'm missing?

I would use 3D geometry with a gradient texture map in the transparency channel to simulate the visible cone of that light source.

huh??? was that english :D
I am having the same sort of issue with this one. I am trying to put sort of a spot light on the lights so what I did was create a new light in the project timeline window thing and tried to position the light (spot) to where the light is. is this the best way to do this or is there a better way?

I can't realy understand what either of you are asking...sorry.
All I need to know is how to get the cone to not start off at a point.
In the second image, the light under the head is how I want it to look...but in order to get that look, I had to pull the entire light behind the object resulting in the cone starting at a point and going through the head of the light.
How do I get the visable light to start further down the cone than at the point? And is this even possible?
FatFish-If I understand what you're saying, I'd try to position 3 spotlights pointing onto the billboard where they're supposed to go, add another light. Then make a selection set of just the billboard and set a the new light to be included in the illumination list on the light properties tab.

You could duplicate the light and make it radial.

Thanks, I got it to work with just checking enable rays, inverting the glows and enabling shadows. The render and the settings are posted to the link above. Is there anything in the settings that should be different? It looks good to me... just checking to see if there is a better way of working.
