I am having trouble running EIU for any length of time. I downloaded the freebie and installed it. It runs fine at first but after about 15 mins it gets VERY chunky and then freezes up. I have a G4 with dual 450's and 1.25gig of RAM on OS9.2.Has anyone else had problems or have a possible solution?

p.s.

I've only used the modeler so far.

Are you starting with a new file or opening an existing one?

How much memory are you allocating to the apps? ARe we talking Animator or Modeler? You have plenty of total memory, increase the per application allocation to hundres of megs each, especially Modeler, which really like RAM.

Make sure virtual memory is off.

I will try jacking the RAM allocations. I have only tried using the modeler so far. I am starting new files each time and loading the bkd image from the NURBS tut. I am playing with that inbetween real work, so it might be a little while before I can try it again.:)

Can you play with the animator for a little while and see if the problem persists?

I've worked with modeler a bit. One rather complex/simple model wanted 512MB and at one point I had to restart with virtual memory to get the program to load the entire project. It was woefully slow but it allowed me to save the project into two smaller pieces.

I was experiencing a lot of crashing during the modeling process. It got to the point where I placed the 'About This Computer' window on my second monitor and monitored the ram usage of the modeler. When it started to sneak up to full capacity I knew it was time to save (or crash), and restart the program, and sometimes the computer, to clear the memory allocations so I could do more work. (this was all under Mac OS8.6)

Hi.

Not sure if it applies to the above problem, but many people have experienced problems with the ATI cards and carbon.lib.1.2.4. which comes with OS.9.2.X, resulting in a severe slowdown of screenredraw....

There should be some threads about this at EI`s userforum either in the "mac" section or in the "technical...." section.

Well the animator seems to work fine. I did pump up the RAM on both. Haven't had a chance to go back to the modeler yet. Pesty deadlines. I will also look into the carbon lib thing in the tech section. Will post again as soon as I have a chance to check it all out.

Thanks for the correction Tom. I looked a little for the OPen GL refs. Still looking. Played with the Animator a bit yesterday. Seemed to work fine. Had it running all day in the bkd. Modeler still crapping out on me today:confused:

Hi.

I tried the "new" toolkit crossgrade yesterday.
I made a single solid sphere and then tried to retesselate it...modeler crashed!.After my third crash in a row i cranked up the memory allocation to 305mb and then it worked!

Using a G4 350mhz/512mb RAM/ OS.9.1.

Have also experienced some really weired redraw problems.
Got ISO view set to wireframe and sometimes the model simply just disappears after tesselation. Switching to simple wireframe displays the model, but, flat shaded, wireframe and smooth shaded won`t....

I`ve cecked my tess settings on an identical project in UM4 and it`s really not that dense a mesh?!

Yeah, I'm kinda at a loss...maybe OSX is the answer?
